The dress rehearsal for TKA 2026, Indonesia’s computer-based national academic skills test for senior high and vocational schools, is under way and ends on 18 October. Its job is to surface device, network, and app problems before the main exam starts on 26 October. For schools, it is the last low-stakes chance to get digital exam readiness right.
The TKA 2026 schedule and where the rehearsal fits
According to a detikEdu report dated 11 October 2026, citing the official Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) schedule, the dress rehearsal (gladi bersih) for senior high, vocational, and equivalent schools runs from 5 to 18 October 2026. The main exam is scheduled for 26 October to 8 November, make-up exams for 16 to 29 November, and results are due on 23 December 2026.
The West Java regional education quality office (BBPMP Jawa Barat) wrote on 6 October 2026 that the rehearsal is split into two waves: 5 to 11 October and 12 to 18 October. Depending on its wave, your school may be finished already or just getting started.
The rehearsal is mandatory for every school taking part in TKA, whether it runs the exam on its own or hosts students as a “guest” at another school. Nobody gets to skip it.

What the dress rehearsal actually tests
The Education Assessment Center (Pusmendik) at Kemendikdasmen lists four goals, as quoted by detikEdu: confirm that devices work, test internet stability, test application and system readiness, and find technical problems early enough to fix them.
Students walk through the full flow. They log in with the account tied to their identity in the TKA system, enter a token, answer questions, and finish the test. They do not have to work until time runs out. Proctors, technicians, and prospective room supervisors are expected to follow the same standard operating procedures as in the main exam.
The software involved
Pojoksatu.id details the main components. Students use Exambrowser Client, an app that restricts access to other functions or apps during the test. Proctors use a separate computer. In online mode, the proctor reaches the exam system through Proktor Browser. In semi-online mode, the proctor runs the exam environment through VirtualBox and a Virtual Hard Disk (VHD), while student computers connect over a local network (LAN).
That split matters for schools with unreliable internet. Semi-online mode makes the exam less dependent on an outside connection, but it needs a proctor who knows how to set up the environment.
Format changes that affect logistics
A few changes noted by BBPMP Jawa Barat sound technical, but they show up directly in lab schedules and room bookings.
- Each compulsory subject now gets its own day. In 2025, three compulsory subjects were tested on a single day. The stated aim is to reduce cognitive fatigue.
- Mathematics goes from 60 to 75 minutes for 25 items. Indonesian and English are 75 minutes each for 30 items.
- Vocational (SMK) students can choose subjects based on their program of expertise.
- Accommodations are expanded for blind students, deaf students, and students with mild learning barriers on the spectrum.
- The National Assessment (Asesmen Nasional, AN) runs on the same schedule as TKA, so schools do not need to run the two separately.
One subject per day means a longer exam window, with the same devices and rooms in use across many days. Hardware durability and session planning matter more than they did last year.
BBPMP also reminds schools to complete their data entry before the exam: infrastructure data, implementation status and mode, details of proctor and client computers, rooms, and the setup of waves and sessions.
If something goes wrong, here is the advice
Pusmendik stresses that problems during the rehearsal do not mean a student has failed. In detikEdu’s quote: “Justru, inilah tujuan gladi bersih!” (roughly, “That is exactly what the rehearsal is for!”).
The troubleshooting steps reported by Pojoksatu.id are practical enough to become a small school SOP:
- Stay calm and note any error message on screen.
- Do not force-close apps, change network settings, or reinstall software without staff instructions.
- Report to the proctor or technician, including the time and any codes shown.
- Avoid repeated login attempts.
- If the school cannot solve it, the proctor can escalate through the official technical support channel on the Kemendikdasmen TKA portal.
- Never share login details or tokens with unauthorized people.
That last point is often underestimated. An exam token works like a room key, and passing it around a WhatsApp group “to save time” is one of the most common gaps in the field.
A practical checklist before 26 October
This is not an official Kemendikdasmen list. It is our own suggestion, based on the kinds of problems the guidance above points to. Treat it as material for your school’s exam-team meeting.
Start with devices. Check every client computer and the proctor computer one by one: does it power on, is the battery or power supply safe, is the exam app installed, and can the student account log in? Do this before exam day, not on the morning itself.
Then the network. Test it with many devices active at once, because a connection that feels fine for one laptop may not hold for a full lab. If your school uses semi-online mode, test cables, switches, and LAN equipment with the real number of participants.
Finally, people. Have a backup proctor, make sure room supervisors know how to report issues, and avoid stacking sessions too tightly. One person calling in sick on exam day should not delay every session.
What this means for your organization
The rehearsal belongs to schools taking TKA, but its lessons apply to anyone running a computer-based exam.
Schools. Use the time before 26 October to close out whatever the rehearsal exposed. Make sure there are enough client computers for each session, keep spare devices, and train more than one person as a proctor. Log every issue with its time so a support ticket is easy to understand.
Education offices and school foundations. You look after many schools at once. A readiness map per school (exam mode, device count, network stability) helps you decide which schools need hands-on help first.
Universities, training providers, and companies. Entrance tests, certifications, and internal assessments share the same pain points: devices, networks, tokens, and supervision. Rehearsing before the real day is worth copying, whatever platform you use.
If your school or institution runs its own digital exams outside TKA, Merakit Exam is built for that, with session setup and participant monitoring. Frequently asked questions
Is the TKA dress rehearsal mandatory?
Yes. According to Pusmendik, as quoted by detikEdu, every school participating in TKA must take part, whether it runs the exam on its own or hosts students from elsewhere.
What should we do if the app fails during the rehearsal?
Stay calm, write down the error message, and report it to the proctor or technician. Do not change network settings or reinstall the app without instructions. Problems the school cannot fix can be escalated by the proctor through the official support channel on the TKA portal.
Do schools have to run TKA and the National Assessment separately?
No. According to BBPMP Jawa Barat, the National Assessment runs on the same schedule as TKA, so schools do not need to run it separately.
Closing thoughts
Digital exams rarely fail because of the questions. They fail because a token arrives late, a laptop runs out of battery, or the Wi-Fi gives up during the third session. A dress rehearsal exists to catch those small things while they are still cheap to fix.
