Samsung announced a major update to its Samsung Health app on October 14, 2026. Sleep Coaching can now begin with just three days of sleep data, Running Coach grows from 10 to 12 levels, and users can import routes from Strava. The features roll out in stages starting in October, and availability in Indonesia has not been announced.

A faster start for Sleep Coaching

Sleep Coaching is the guided sleep program inside Samsung Health. Until now, users needed seven days of data within a month before the program could begin. After the update, the requirement is three days of data within the past two weeks. People who only recently started wearing a smartwatch or ring can therefore begin sooner.

At setup, users fill in a short survey on sleep regularity, interruptions during the night, alcohol and caffeine intake, and how satisfied they are with their sleep. From the survey and the three days of data, the app assigns a “Sleep Animal” symbol and builds a coaching program of four to eight weeks around the user’s goals. Weekly recommendations adapt to changes in sleep patterns, daily satisfaction, and lifestyle.

Four steps of Sleep Coaching in Samsung Health: complete a survey, collect three days of data, receive a four to eight week program, then follow daily checklists and weekly reports

Samsung says the program draws on principles of behavioral sleep science. It delivers daily habit checklists and simple tips, such as avoiding screens for an hour before bed, skipping late caffeine, and stretching outdoors after waking up.

The five-sided graph and Energy Score

Analysis reports now include a pentagon-shaped graph called Sleep Balance. It combines five indicators: sleep time, sleep regularity, awake time during the night, sleep satisfaction, and Energy Score. Morning messages review the previous night and feed into weekly and final reports.

Energy Score requires data from a Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring that has been synced with the app. Samsung states that the result is for personal reference only and is not intended for medical purposes. The announcement does not explain how Energy Score is calculated, and we found no independent testing of how accurate a program built on three days of data can be.

Running Coach and Strava routes

Running Coach adds two levels, for 12 in total, aimed at intermediate and advanced runners. Plans are still built from a 12-minute running test or from the user’s running history, so runners with training records do not have to start from scratch. Runners can also export workout data into share-ready templates for social platforms.

Through a partnership with Strava, users can import their favorite routes for running, trail running, and cycling directly into Samsung Health. Samsung notes that Strava is available worldwide except Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Russia, parts of Ukraine, and South Korea. Indonesia is not on that exclusion list, so in principle users here can use Strava. Android Headlines reports that the routes can be followed on a Galaxy Watch or a phone. Whether route import requires a Strava subscription is not explained in the sources we read.

Devices, app versions, and timing

The two features have different requirements, so not every Galaxy owner will get both at once. Sleep Coaching needs Samsung Health 6.24 or later, a Galaxy phone running Android 11 or later, and a Galaxy Watch4 series or newer, a Galaxy Fit3 or newer, or a Galaxy Ring. Running Coach needs version 6.30.2 or later, an Android 10 or later phone, a Samsung account, and a Galaxy Watch8 series or newer.

Samsung says the features will roll out progressively through app updates starting in October, and that availability and timing may vary by market and model. No date for Indonesia has been announced, so an update that reaches one user may not yet appear for another.

What remains unclear

Android Headlines points out several things the announcement leaves open: how Sleep Animal and Energy Score are calculated, how accurate a program that starts from three nights of data can be, and whether Strava route import has limits on the number of routes or a subscription requirement. GSMArena likewise found nothing on pricing or subscriptions. Until Samsung provides details, treat these features as a habit aid of uncertain precision. Claims about their benefits are Samsung’s own and have not been independently tested.

For individual users, the first steps are simple: update Samsung Health, confirm your watch series qualifies, wear the watch for three nights, and answer the survey honestly. The program is only as useful as the habits the survey describes.

What this means for clinics and workplace wellness programs

The update looks small on the surface, but it shows a direction that matters to organizations responsible for other people’s health: data from smartwatches and rings is increasingly turned into daily advice. A few concrete considerations:

Keep habit support separate from diagnosis. Samsung itself says Energy Score is not for medical use. Clinics and employers running fitness programs should treat scores like this as conversation material; clinical decisions still rest on a health professional’s examination.

Get consent before touching the data. Under Article 4, paragraph (2) of Indonesia’s Undang-Undang Nomor 27 Tahun 2022 tentang Pelindungan Data Pribadi (Personal Data Protection Law), health data and information count as specific personal data. If a workplace program wants to use participants’ sleep or running data, explain the purpose, limit who can see it, and make participation voluntary.

Plan a tidy data path. Wearable data comes from many devices and apps. If your organization wants to analyze it, decide the data format, storage, and retention period first. Teams that need help can look at our IoT and data analytics services.

Connect to health services deliberately. Personal data from a fitness app does not automatically become a medical record. Hospital records follow a different path, as we explain in our piece on SATUSEHAT EMR and JKN claims. For an overview of what we build for the sector, see our healthcare solutions.

Do and avoid list for using wearable data in a health program: ask for consent, limit access, do not diagnose from a score

Frequently asked questions

Is Samsung Health Sleep Coaching available in Indonesia yet?

Samsung says the features are rolling out in stages starting in October and may vary by market and model. Availability specifically for Indonesia has not been announced. Users can check for Samsung Health updates in their app store and confirm that their app version meets the requirements.

Do I need the latest Galaxy Watch?

It depends on the feature. Sleep Coaching supports the Galaxy Watch4 series and later, the Galaxy Fit3 and later, and the Galaxy Ring. Running Coach is available only on the Galaxy Watch8 series or newer.

Can Sleep Coaching results be used for a diagnosis?

No. Samsung says Energy Score is for personal reference only and is not intended for medical purposes. Persistent sleep problems should be discussed with a health professional.

Closing thoughts

This update shows wearables moving from simply recording numbers toward giving daily direction. For users, the benefit will depend on whether the data is accurate and the habits actually change. For organizations, the key questions are consent and data handling.
